Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul
Interesting fact—the Little Sisters Home in Pittsburgh is known to some as the Sts. Peter and Paul Home. This name represents the “twin” cities of Pittsburgh and Allegheny where in the late 1800s a Little Sisters Home was located in each of the two cities. The main cathedrals in those neighboring cities were St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh and St. Peter’s in Allegheny. In 1907 the two cities merged and in 1972 the Little Sisters Homes merged. Allegheny City, now known generally as the North Side of Pittsburgh, is where our current Home is located.
So it’s fitting that a Home named after these two cities celebrated the Feast Day of Sts. Peter and Paul on June 29. To help commemorate the day, these two paintings of those important saints were displayed at the entrance to our Gloria Chapel. The Residents and Sisters were also treated to a special meal in celebration of this Feast Day!
