In the same week that the Little Sisters were recognized by city council, another level of politics visited the home. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett came for a tour on Thursday May 31st. He was greeted by Residents, Sisters, Board Members, and staff upon arrival. From there he was treated to a warm welcome by a full auditorium. The Governor offered some inspirational words to the crowd about how we never truly know Gods plan for us and then congratulated the Sisters for their service to the elderly poor of Pittsburgh for the last 140 years and for being recognized as the one of the top 39 nursing homes in the nation.
All new visitors to home never leave empty-handed and the Governor was no exception. Mother Judith, in gratitude for his visit, gave him books about St. Jeanne Jugan and a Little Sisters t-shirt with instructions that he only needed to wear the shirt to half of his social engagements! The Resident Schola and bell choir provided the musical entertainment performing both “God Bless America” and “America the Beautiful.” After loads of introductions to all in attendance, Governor Corbett capped off his visit with a full tour of the home meeting many Residents along the way.
Many thanks to Governor Corbett for visiting us at the Little Sisters! You are welcome back anytime!
