Campfires, songs, and s’mores—things we all remember from camping trips as children. This week’s activities theme was camping, although no one had to leave the home to experience the fun of camping. Despite the warm temperatures many Residents enjoyed all that camping week had to offer. One afternoon a crowd of Residents gathered on the auditorium porch as Karen, our Music Therapist, played camp sing-a-long songs on her guitar. To top off the afternoon everyone was treated to a gooey s’more roasted on the grill.
Thursday evening, as the weather cooled a bit, the camp party continued in our outdoor courtyard. A true campfire was lit which was perfect for roasting marshmallows. Once again guitar led camp songs and singing capped off the evening. Friday’s theme was a bit of an adventure as “Kayaking with Karen” was the focus. Our Music Therapist doubles as an avid recreational kayaker and she demonstrated how to use her kayak and even showed video clips from a recent trip on the water.
Even though it has been years since our Residents enjoyed the thrill of camping outdoors, this week was their chance to relive some of those memories from camping trips long ago.
