CAMPAIGN FOR COMPASSIONATE CARE
The Little Sisters of the Poor Campaign for Compassionate Care has transformed the Home on 1028 Benton Avenue. What was once an outmoded facility, is now a state of the art comprehensive care senior living residence. The Little Sisters can now care for low income Residents in the best possible way.The campaign was publicly announced in October 2007. Recognizing the pressing need to complete this project, the Sisters were fortunate to secure a tax free municipal bond issue to finance the construction. This bond has allowed the Little Sisters to open Jeanne Jugan Pavilion apartments and completely renovate the James P. Wall building. Raising the funds to repay this bond is central to this capital campaign.Opened in 2007, the Jeanne Jugan Pavilion increased available apartments for low income seniors to 45 units. Though apartment Residents live independently they are fully integrated into all the Home’s activities. They can dine together in the spacious dining room; enjoy shopping excursions, cultural events and physical activities. Residents take advantage of the many resources available to the general senior population as well as accessing the multiple options provided by the Little Sisters. Such inter-dependence is a model that promotes self sufficiency while offsetting social isolation.

The James P. Wall Building renovations are now complete. Here the Home’s “main street”—the gift shop, country store, dining room, beauty shop—as well as the medical suite, social services, physical therapy, administrative offices and the auditorium can be found. Prior to this renovation, repairs were done on an as-needed basis, but no major restoration had ever taken place since the building was constructed in 1923.

The Little Sisters are reaching out to friends near and far to complete the campaign and fully repay the tax exempt bond. Call the Development Office today to make a lasting gift to the campaign (412) 307-1268. Thank you!
