June 19, 2020
Dear Family & Friends,
All of the remaining Residents (about 45) not yet tested for Covid-19 were tested on June 4. The results all came back negative except for one nursing home Resident whose results were positive. Immediately the household where this Resident lives was locked down and all of those Residents spent the last week plus confined to their rooms. All Residents and staff on that household were re-tested quickly last week and all results from those re-tests were negative.
The Resident who tested positive was/is completely asymptomatic and rarely leaves her room. Following Health Department protocol this Resident was re-tested on Monday and Tuesday of this week and we are happy to report that both tests came back negative. We have also tested nearly all staff (including those in non-direct care roles) and all are negative thus far. The remaining 5% of the staff that still needs to be tested will be done within the next week.
We continue to do all we can to keep our Residents safe and well cared for at our Home. While things have been challenging for many, we are trying to keep everyone’s spirits up. Wednesday of this week we had a unique celebration for the 100th and 103rd birthdays of two Residents! A vehicle parade of decorated cars driven by volunteers, friends and family were escorted by the Pittsburgh police with Residents, Sisters and Staff waving them on in the front parking lot. The two celebrating their birthdays both agreed that the parade was even better than a party and they can’t wait to do it again next year! Please see the links in our News & Events section to see how much joy there was during this celebration!
Everyday we pray that this pandemic and this lockdown will soon be over. Whenever we receive word that we can ease our visitation restrictions we will notify all Resident family members and our volunteers as soon as possible. Until then, let’s continue to pray for one another!
